Last year, the best package was Rs. 34 lakh. • MBA costs in India to go up by 19%, top B-schools set to hike fee for 2016 More than 10 of the country's top B-schools have either hiked fees or are proposing an increase of 6-19% for the class of 2016, citing inflation and rising operational costs. • IIM - A collaborating with Harvard, UC Berkeley and MIT for research The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has joined hands with the US universities Harvard, UC Berkeley, MIT for conducting research projects. • IIMs may start offering degrees soon Students pursuing post graduate programmes and five year Integrated Program in Management(IPM) from any of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) can now expect degrees after completing their course. • IIFT, New Delhi announces MBA (Weekends) programme The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade has invited applications for an MBA in International Business programme which will be conducted on weekends. In 2005, the US had denied visa to Modi in the wake of the 2002 Gujarat riots and has since not revoked its decision. • US Ambassador to India Nancy Powell resigns US ambassador to India, Nancy Powell has resigned and will leave her post by the end of May. Speculation has been rife that the diplomatic row between India and the US involving the arrest of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade as well as Powell's aversion to Narendra Modi, who is favourite to become India's Next Prime Minister, might have led to her resignation. However the US State Department has denied these reasons and termed them as rumours. • Researchers identify 'good bacteria' that can protect women against HIV Using a laboratory model of the human vagina, scientists have discovered that certain bacterial communities alter the way HIV infects and replicates. Researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston have successfully identified the good bacteria that protect women from HIV infection and other infections. • 'Electronic skin' developed to store information and release medicine Researchers in the US have created an 'electronic skin' that is capable of storing and transmiting data about a person's movements, receiving diagnostic information and releasing drugs into skin. The technology could aid patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease or epilepsy.
