CAT Question of the Day
The statement(s) below are the summary of a paragraph. Choose the option that best represents the paragraph that was summarised.

This is not blasphemy, but we really need to start questioning the impact of boisterous religious celebrations on human health and the environment at large. The recent Ganesh Chaturti festivities — especially on the final visarjan (immersion) day; think huge, effulgent idols thronged by a sea of spirited people (mostly high on spirits of varying potency) — made for a great visual in print, television and online media. Scratch the surface and you've got, for one, a case for eardrum-splitting noise pollution. We must congratulate ourselves for having attained a record 121.4 db at Girgaum Chowpatty, enough to cause permanent hearing damage. Also, how many of us pause to wonder about the unholy end of larger-than-life idols that get religiously dumped into the sea, rivers, lakes and ponds after a few days of worship?

Mainstream media usually refrains from reporting on washed-up, fractured and deformed idols, probably out of fear of sacrilege and inciting the believing common man's ire.

OPTIONS

1)The recent Ganesh Chaturti festivities and the final Visrajan made for extensive media coverage while the damage they caused to human health and the environment were not reported for fear of offending the common man.
2)We need to start questioning the impact of religious festivities on human health and the environment though mainstream media refrains from reporting those effects for fear of inciting public anger.
3)It is not blasphemy to question the adverse effects of religious festivities like the Ganesh Chaturti and Visarjan on human health and the environment though their harmful effects are not covered by the media for fear of inciting public anger.
4)The recent Ganesh Chaturti festivities and Visrajan are examples of religious festivities that need to be questioned for their adverse impact on human health and the environment for their decibel levels and pollution of water resources.
Tip of the Day
While solving speed, time and distance problems, be alert when it comes to units. Watch out for km/ hr to m/s conversions especially.
Last year's Question of the day (18-Oct-11)
The first of the great Georgian clubs to popularize the glee was the Noblemen and Gentlemen's Catch Club of London, founded in 1762. Glee singing societies became popular in the 18th century and remained so, well into the 19th century. Glee clubs were at their most active during the second half of the 18th C., encouraging the production of new glees by awarding prizes to their composers. For example, in 1763 the Catch Club was offering four prizes annually - two for glees (one serious, one cheerful), one for a catch and one for a canon. From around 1850, as larger choral societies supplanted the earlier clubs, the term glee club was increasingly used in the U.S.A. to describe collegiate ensembles performing 'glees' and other light music in informal circumstances. As these glee clubs began more to resemble standard choirs during the 20th century, the tradition of singing glees in a social context faded.

Which of the following can be concluded about Glees from the passage?
OPTIONS

1)Glee clubs ceased being active after the second half of the 18th Century.
2)Singing Glees at a social occasion saw much greater popularity before the 20th Century.
3)The production of new glees wasn't a common practice in the 18th century.
4)The Noblemen and Gentlemen's Catch Club of London created the first glee.
5)Choral societies were responsible for the death of glee singing societies in the 19th century.
