CAT Question of the Day
Raj invested Rs. 100 each in four companies - A, B, C and D - for one year. Each company was from a different sector i.e. Cement, IT, Auto and Steel, but not necessarily in the same order. The expected annual profits from A, B, C and D were 20%, 10%, 30% and 40% respectively. At the end of the year, two of these companies declared "extraordinarily good results" i.e. one of these companies showed twice the initially expected profit while the other showed 1.5 times the initially expected profit. The company that showed twice the expected profit was from the Cement or IT sector while the other company that declared "extraordinarily good results" was from the Steel or Auto sector. For the remaining two companies, the profit at the end of the year was the same as initially expected.

At the end of the year, if Raj earned an overall profit of 35%, how many of these statements are definitely true?
  1. Company A belonged to the Auto or Steel sector.
  2. Company B did not announce "extraordinarily good results".
  3. Company A announced "extraordinarily good results".
  4. Company D may have belonged to the Steel sector.

Tip of the Day
Maintaining a very high accuracy in the verbal section is not as easy as it is in the Math and DI sections. Attempt more questions to compensate for this drop in accuracy.
Last year's Question of the day (01-Nov-12)
The statement(s) below are the summary of a paragraph. Choose the option that best represents the paragraph that was summarised.

Those who use the term "philosophy of language" typically use it to refer to work within the field of Anglo-American analytical philosophy and its roots in German and Austrian philosophy of the early twentieth century. Many philosophers outside this tradition have views on the nature and use of language, and the border between "analytical" and "continental" philosophy is becoming more porous with time, but most who speak of this field are appealing to a specific set of traditions, canonical authors and methods.

OPTIONS

1)The term "philosophy of language" refers to a part of Anglo American analytical philosophy of the early 20th century appealing to specific set of authors and traditions, though it is similar to "continental" philosophy.
2)The term "philosophy of language" referring to specific set of traditions, authors, and methods is beginning to lose its definition as many other philosophers too have dealt with the nature and use of language.
3)Though many philosophers have views on the nature and use of language, the term "philosophy of language" is used to distinguish a specific set of philosophers within the field of Anglo-American analytical philosophy.
4)The difference between "philosophy of language" and "continental" philosophy is becoming blurred as many philosophers outside the set of Anglo-American analytical philosophy have views on the nature and use of language.
