CAT Question of the Day
A research institute conducted a survey to test the popularity of four singers over a period of seven years. In each year, the same set of n respondents was asked to vote for exactly one of these four singers. The line graph below shows the percentage of respondents who voted for each singer in each year. If the percentage of respondents voting for a singer increased from one year to the next, the singer was said to have "progressed" and if it decreased, the singer was said to have "regressed". If there was no change in the percentage of respondents voting for a singer from one year to the next, the singer had "held his ground". Each singer was assigned 0 points at the beginning of the survey and got +2, −1 and 0 points every time he "progressed", "regressed" and "held his ground" respectively. A singer "progressed" in the overall survey if he ended up with a higher score than at the start and "regressed" if he ended up with a lower score. If the singer ended up with 0, he had "held his ground". How many singers did not "progress" as per the overall survey?

Tip of the Day
Do not have a pre-defined strategy about the type of questions you will tackle, especially in the Quantitative Ability section. Your strategy will need to adapt with each different question.
Last year's Question of the day (20-Oct-12)
Answer the question based on the passage given below.

Within the fashion industry, intellectual property is not enforced as it is within the film industry and music industry. To "take inspiration" from others' designs contributes to the fashion industry's ability to establish clothing trends. For the past few years, WGSN has been a dominant source of fashion news and forecasts in steering fashion brands worldwide to be "inspired" by one another. Enticing consumers to buy clothing by establishing new trends is, some have argued, a key component of the industry's success. Intellectual property rules that interfere with the process of trend-making would, on this view, be counter-productive. In contrast, it is often argued that the blatant theft of new ideas, unique designs, and design details by larger companies is what often contributes to the failure of many smaller or independent design companies.

Which of the following can't be easily concluded from the passage?
OPTIONS

1)The film industry makes it a point to enforce the intellectual property right.
2)The fashion industry runs on the fact that people are allowed to copy one another.
3)Independent design companies get destroyed because fashion allows mass-producers to copy their original designs.
4)Intellectual property in fashion isn't very beneficial to its progress.
5)Clothing trends as a concept would die down if intellectual property rights were enforced.
