Two boys are wandering in the forests of Amazon, when they see a big cave in front of them. The cave is filled with gold. Seeing all the glittery gold, eyes of both the boys lit up but their joy is cut short when a hideous devil appears in front of them who is guarding the cave. The devil challenges the boys to answer his riddles and take away all the gold. The devil will ask one riddle each to both the boys. If they answer them, they have to answer one last question to get the gold. The boys accept his challenge. First Riddle: A colony of ants with 100 ants is located on a one metre long stick. The stick starts vibrating vigorously after feeling a mild tremor caused by the movement of a herd of elephants nearby. The ants start moving in a chaotic manner such that when two ants collide they reverse their direction of motion. The ants move at a speed of one centimeter per second. If an ant reaches the edge of the stick it falls. What is the maximum time, after which all the ants will fall off the stick? Second Riddle: You are the organizer of 100 metre athletic event but you are faced with a dilemma. Your race track can only accomodate five runners at a time. However 25 athletes have appeared for the event. You have no means of measuring the exact time taken by each athlete. What is the minimum number of races required to find the top three athletes? Last Question: What is the remainder when the answer to the first riddle is divided by the answer of the second riddle? Help the boys get the gold by answering the riddles! |
