Purchase THE WORLD THIS WEEK • Sun Pharmaceuticals to buy Ranbaxy Laboratories in $3.2 billion deal Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries will fully acquire Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd in an all-stock transaction deal valued at USD 3.2 billion. After the acquisition, it will become the fifth largest speciality generics company in the world and the largest pharmaceutical company in India. • Pro-Russian protestors occupy government buildings in 3 more cities, call for secession from Ukraine Pro-Russian protestors seized government buildings in the Ukrainian cities of Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv on Sunday, 7th March. Rebels in Donetsk called for a referendum on the lines of Crimea to secede from Ukraine. Ukrainian special forces later cleared the building. Russia alleged that America and Ukranian militants had joined the authorities for the crackdown on Pro-Russia supporters and warned of a civil war if Ukraine uses force. The United States and Ukraine's government blamed ousted president Victor Yanukovych and Russia for funding the protests. • Rwanda commemorates 20th anniversary of the genocide President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and world dignitaries, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, commemorated the 20th anniversary of the country's genocide on 7th April at a ceremony in the capital city of Kigali.Mr. Kagame rekindled an old dispute by hinting at France of playing a "direct role" in the genocide. In response France cancelled plans to attend the ceremony.
