Puzzle#307 - "The Wordlock Game"
03-Apr-14
Ross, Rachel, Monica and Joey are playing the Wordlock game. Ross is the Wordlock of the game and Rachel is his assistant. She has to help Ross guess the word that Joey has chosen. Joey, being Joey, has selected a word that does not make sense at all. His friend, Monica, has twisted it to make Joey and Rachel’s life miserable.

Monica first converts each letter of the word to its numerical position in the alphabet. Then she encrypts each number and gives Ross a clue for each encryption. She sources her clues from areas as varied as names of months and days of a week, rate charts, number classifications etc. The code is called N.

Monica’s clues are:
1. Days in a week × Count(N) = Modal value of days in a month + Modal value of letters in names of days in a week + Maximum Sundays in a month;
where Count(N) = number of letters in N
2. The first letter is called Dec, the second is called Nov, the third is called Oct and so on.
3. Nov and Aug are mirror images of each other.
4. There are 2 prime numbers in N, and only one of them is greater than 20.
5. ‘a’ is a 2-digit number. a = 21 × 2-digit perfect square = 2−1 × 3-digit perfect square = perfect square × perfect cube. The sum of digits of ‘a’ is ‘b’. b is nothing but Aug.
6. Consider the rate chart given below:
Buy 6 for Rs. 14
Buy 16 for Rs. 114
Buy 200 for Rs. 214
Buy 7 for Rs. 14
Buy 72 for Rs. 114
Buy 129 for Rs. 114
Buy 2 for Rs. 14
Buy 25 for Rs. 114
Buy 999 for Rs. 214
The price of 9 corresponds to Oct.
7. 7, 8, 5, _, 3, 4, 4
The missing number of this series gives the prime number which is less than 20; and which corresponds to Jul.
8. No prime number can be a neighbour of an even number in N.
9. One of the numbers of the code is a 2-digit number = 3 + one of the prime numbers of the code.
Help Ross find the word.
