CAT Question of the Day
Raj has taken six subjects: Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics and Laboratory in the first semester of college. The grade given in any subject varies from AA to CD [AA, AB, BB, BC, CC, and CD]. AA is mathematically equivalent to 10, AB to 9 and so on. The SPI (Semester Performance Index) is calculated on the basis of these grades as per the following:

Here, gi represents the grade obtained in a subject and ci represents the credits allotted to the subject.

The following information is also known:
  1. The maximum credits (i.e., 8 credits) are allotted to Mathematics and the minimum credits (i.e., 3 credits) are allotted to Laboratory course. These are the only courses having these credits.
  2. Economics and Statistics have 6 credits each.
  3. Raj does not know the number of credits allotted to Computer Science and Physics but knows that they are not equal to the number of credits allotted to Economics. The number of credits allotted to Computer Science is more than that allotted to Physics.
  4. He will get either AA or AB in Laboratory course.
  5. He is excellent in Statistics and is sure of getting AA in it.
  6. He is also good in Economics and Mathematics, and expects AA or AB in Economics and AB in Mathematics.
  7. He is decent in Physics and expects AB or BB in it.
  8. He is afraid about Computer Science and cannot tell anything about what grade to expect.
Which of the following is true?

OPTIONS

1)If he manages to get AA in Economics and AB in Physics but CD in Computer Science, then his SPI < 8.65
2)If he gets AA in Economics and Computer Science has 5 credits, then his SPI > 8.65
3)If he manages to get AA in Economics and AB in Physics, then his SPI > 8.35
 4)Both (1) and (3)
 5)None of these
Tip of the Day
Having the ability to speak clearly and confidently will help you go a long way in the GDs and PIs. If you face trouble in any of the two, a surefire way to improve is - practice, practice and more practice.
Last year's Question of the day (28-Jan-13)
Answer the following questions based on the information given below.

Caffeine in no way mitigates coffee's therapeutic effects. Of course, what we choose to add to coffee can just as easily negate the benefits -- various sugar-sweetened beverages were all significantly associated with an increased risk of diabetes. A learned taste for cream and sugar (made all the more enticing when they're designed to smell like seasonal celebrations) is likely one of the reasons why we associate coffee more with decadence than prudence.
Why do we associate coffee more with decadence than prudence?
OPTIONS

1)With coffee, people abandon caution in including substances as sugar or cream that negate the benefits of having coffee.
2)Coffee drinking people will find the news that coffee is beneficial quite welcoming.
3)Caffeine negates the benefits associated with coffee.
4)Most coffee drinkers are prudent because they stay away from substances that can harm such as sugar and cream.
