CAT Question of the Day
In the cubic equation ax3 + bx2 + cx + d = 0, the coefficients a, b, c and d satisfy |(b + d)| = |(a + c)|. What can be definitely said about the roots of this equation?

OPTIONS

 1)There is a root at x = 0
 2)
There is a root at x = 1 or at x = −1
 3)
There is a root in the interval for which x < −1 or x > 1
 4)
There is a root in the interval −1 < x < 1, but not necessarily at x = 0
 5)Nothing can be said
Tip of the Day
While solving questions based on Jumbled Sentences, after choosing the correct option, read the sentences in the order as mentioned in that option to verify the correctness of your answer.
Last year's Question of the day (29-Dec-12)
Answer the question based on the passage given below.

For most purposes, the Geographic South Pole is defined as the southern point of the two points where the Earth's axis of rotation intersects its surface (the other being the Geographic North Pole). However, the Earth's axis of rotation is actually subject to very small 'wobbles', so this definition is not adequate for very precise work.
The geographic coordinates of the South Pole are usually given simply as 90°S, since its longitude is geometrically undefined and irrelevant. When a longitude is desired, it may be given as 0°. At the South Pole all directions face north. For this reason, directions at the Pole are given relative to "grid north", which points northwards along the prime meridian.
The Geographic South Pole is located on the continent of Antarctica (although this has not been the case for all of Earth's history because of continental drift). It sits atop a featureless, windswept, icy plateau at an altitude of 2,835 metres (9,306 ft), about 1,300 km (800 mi) from the nearest open sea at Bay of Whales. The ice is estimated to be about 2,700 metres (9,000 ft) thick at the Pole, so the land surface under the ice sheet is actually near sea level.

Which of the below statements isn't true about the South Pole?

OPTIONS

1)The Earth's axis of rotation, pierces its surface at two points. One of them is the South Pole, and exactly at the other end is the North Pole.
2)The continental drift has prevented people from seeing the actual geographical South Pole.
3)The nearest open see from the South Pole is the Bay of Whales.
4)If you're ever lost at sea and want to convey to a rescue ship that you are at the South Pole, you'll say that you are at 90°S.
5)At the South Pole, the land surface is actually very close to the seabed.
