Last year's Question of the day (18-Oct-12)
The statement(s) below are the summary of a paragraph. Choose the option that best represents the paragraph that was summarised.

This is not blasphemy, but we really need to start questioning the impact of boisterous religious celebrations on human health and the environment at large. The recent Ganesh Chaturti festivities — especially on the final visarjan (immersion) day; think huge, effulgent idols thronged by a sea of spirited people (mostly high on spirits of varying potency) — made for a great visual in print, television and online media. Scratch the surface and you've got, for one, a case for eardrum-splitting noise pollution. We must congratulate ourselves for having attained a record 121.4 db at Girgaum Chowpatty, enough to cause permanent hearing damage. Also, how many of us pause to wonder about the unholy end of larger-than-life idols that get religiously dumped into the sea, rivers, lakes and ponds after a few days of worship?

Mainstream media usually refrains from reporting on washed-up, fractured and deformed idols, probably out of fear of sacrilege and inciting the believing common man's ire.

OPTIONS

1)The recent Ganesh Chaturti festivities and the final Visrajan made for extensive media coverage while the damage they caused to human health and the environment were not reported for fear of offending the common man.
2)We need to start questioning the impact of religious festivities on human health and the environment though mainstream media refrains from reporting those effects for fear of inciting public anger.
3)It is not blasphemy to question the adverse effects of religious festivities like the Ganesh Chaturti and Visarjan on human health and the environment though their harmful effects are not covered by the media for fear of inciting public anger.
4)The recent Ganesh Chaturti festivities and Visrajan are examples of religious festivities that need to be questioned for their adverse impact on human health and the environment for their decibel levels and pollution of water resources.
