 adjective ]
 MEANING :
 1. learned in a narrow, stodgy or ostentatious manner
2. pedestrian or unimaginative
3. pertaining or related to a pedant
 USAGE EXAMPLE 1 :
 Students quickly lost interest because of the pedantic methodology employed by the teachers.
 USAGE EXAMPLE 2 :
 Plain English doesn't want to be too pedantic about language, although '10 items or fewer' is grammatically correct, it can sound cumbersome.

polity [ POL-i-tee ]
 noun ]
 MEANING :
 1. a political organisation or form of government
2. an organisation, state, society or body that has its own governance
3. a specific or particular system or form of government
 USAGE EXAMPLE 1 :
 The polity as a whole decided on how to tackle the growing threat of terrorism.
 USAGE EXAMPLE 2 :
 Reports say the government is keen on a discussion on the nuclear deal, which has divided the Indian polity.

proviso [ pruh'-VAHY-zoh ]
 noun ]
 MEANING :
 1. a conditional clause in a statute, decree or document
2. a stipulation, specification or condition
 USAGE EXAMPLE 1 :
 The proviso in the will stated that yearly allowances would be paid to benefactors only if they accepted certain terms and conditions.
 USAGE EXAMPLE 2 :
 Under the city's transportation plan prices are required to rise by 10% plus inflation subject to the proviso it should not damage the local economy.

metaphor [ MET-uh'-fawr, -fer ]
 noun ]
 MEANING :
 1. a figure of speech where a word or a phrase that normally gives off a certain meaning is made to give off another indirectly which leads to an implied comparison between the two
2. an emblem or symbol
3. an object or idea that represents another
 USAGE EXAMPLE 1 :
 He liked to use metaphors while speaking.
 USAGE EXAMPLE 2 :
 I have tried to depict autism in the wider perspective of a metaphor, with normal parents looking for miracles to make their children extraordinary.

 noun ]
 MEANING :
 1. carrion or waste or inedible parts of an animal that has been butchered
2. viscera or the trimmings of a slaughtered animal removed in dressing
3. waste, rubbish or refuse
 USAGE EXAMPLE 1 :
 The poorest of the poor often survive on offal discarded by the butcher.
 USAGE EXAMPLE 2 :
