CBI alleges law minister and officials in the PMO changed coalgate enquiry status reports
CBI director Ranjit Singh has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that law minister Ashwani Kumar, Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati and officials of the PMO and coal ministry had deleted findings from the draft report of the enquiry and had changed the status of reports. The affidavit contradicts the law Minister and the AG who had previously denied suggesting changes in the draft report.
CBI books Railway Minister's nephew and several others in a 10 crore bribery scam
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked railway minister Pawan Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla and several others for allegedly demanding Rs.10 crore as bribe and accepting Rs.90 lakhs as part payment for getting Mahesh Kumar, General Manager (Western Railways), posted as Member (Electrical) Railway Board, which is considered next to Railway General Manager in hierarchy. The CBI would also question Bansal's private secretary Rahul Bhandari on his close links with Vijay Singla. Bansal has said that he has no business links with his nephew and denied any wrongdoing.
Chinese Army pulls out from Depsang Plains in Ladakh, ends faceoff
The Chinese Army withdrew from the Indian side of the LAC in Ladakh's Depsang plains on May 6th, after India pressurized Chinese authorities that India was ready to act tough and might cancel Salman Khurshid's visit to China and the Chinese Premier's LI Keqiang's visit to India next month.
Sarabjit Singh dies in Pakistan hospital
Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh died of cardiac arrest in a Lahore hospital after being comatose for nearly a week following a brutal assault by other inmates of a high-security jail in Lahore.
RBI cuts lending rates by 25 basis points; still no changes in retail lending rates
The Reserve Bank of India has reduced its key lending rate (repo rate) from 7.50 per cent to 7.25 per cent but has kept the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) unchanged at 4 percent. However, the rate cut was too small to have an immediate impact on retail lending rates.
Apple Inc. sells $17 billion in bonds in record deal
In a record deal, Apple Inc. sold USD 17 billion in bonds to pay shareholders in an effort to pacify them for the company's shrinking profit margins and reverse a 37 percent drop in its share rate during the past 7 months. However, the downturn in Apple's stock rate hasn't dampened investors' enthusiasm for Apple's bonds.
