Obama visits Middle East, stresses on key diplomatic developments
President Barack Obama's March 2013 visit to the Middle East saw some key diplomatic measures. Obama succeeded in restoring relations between two of America's most important allies in the Middle East, Turkey and Israel. In Israel, Obama's criticized the Israeli government's decision to build new settlements in disputed territories and urged young Israelis to pressurize their leaders to seek peace with Palestine. Obama also visited the West Bank and harped on the need for dialogue between Israel and Palestine for a two state solution. Obama also announced that the United States would provide $ 200 million in aid to Jordan to help the country manage the influx of Syrian refugees. However, during his visit, tensions erupted over the alleged use of chemical weapons in a village near Aleppo in Syria. Obama reiterated his earlier refusal to give military assistance to the Syrian opposition but said that the use of chemical weapons could be a big game changer.
