DMK has pulled out of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) accusing the government of not adopting a resolution in Parliament supporting two amendments to the U.S. sponsored draft resolution against Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The first amendment should state that genocide and war crimes had been committed on Eelam Tamils by the Sri Lankan Army and administrators and a second amendment for the constitution of a credible, independent international commission of inquiry into the allegation of war crimes. The student community and the film fraternity in Tamil Nadu have also launched massive protests against human rights violations in Sri Lanka.
