CAT Question of the Day
The question below contains a paragraph followed by alternative summaries. Choose the option that best captures the essence of the paragraph.

From the moment they reject the existence of God, atheists- at least the thinking ones- run headlong into the problem of goodness. Naturally. Because once you renounce the fount of all that's considered to be morally superlative, you begin to immediately flounder trying to explain why the quality of ethical excellence exists in the world at all. So, for the rest of their intellectual life these poor people have to keep fighting a losing battle against their detractors by explaining away such things without the luxury of a divine cause to fall back on.
OPTIONS

1)Atheists' efforts to intellectually explain the existence of ethical excellence in the world meet with ultimate failure as there is no divinity to fall back on.
2)Atheists' rejection of God makes them incapable of explaining the existence of goodness in the world as for them God is the fount of all that is morally superlative.
3)Atheists fight a losing battle trying to explain the existence of ethical excellence in the world as they have rejected the existence of God, the fount of all goodness.
4)Atheists flounder trying to counter their detractors about the existence of God and the existence of ethical excellence in the world.
5)Atheists are unable to reconcile the existence of ethical excellence in the world as they have rejected the fount of all that is morally superlative.
Tip of the Day
In Paragraph Completion questions, eliminate options that appear to complete the paragraph but also add new data which require elaboration.
Last year's Question of the day (06-Jun-11)
The human species is by no means the pinnacle of evolution. Evolution has no pinnacle and there is no such thing as evolutionary progress. Natural selection is simply the process by which life-forms change to suit the myriad opportunities afforded by the physical environment and by other life-forms.

Which of the following, if true, would most strengthen the author's argument that evolution has no pinnacle?
OPTIONS

1)There are plenty of life-forms in the present that are not as highly evolved as human beings, for example, dolphins.
2)There are life-forms from the past which, if they had not become extinct prematurely, would have been almost as highly evolved as human beings; for example, dinosaurs.
3)In the distant future, when the environment on earth changes radically, humans may evolve into completely different beings to adapt to that environment.
4)The physical environment of the past was very different from that of the present, so the life-forms of the past were also different than present ones.
