Code: CAT14 Purchase THE WORLD THIS WEEK • India scraps Rs. 3,727-cr VVIP chopper deal with AgustaWestland India terminated a controversial Rs. 3,727-crore contract with AgustaWestland to supply 12 VVIP helicopters to the Indian Air Force which has invoked the integrity pact to scrap the deal in which the UK-based firm allegedly paid middlemen more than Rs. 375 crore in bribes. • Government deposits with RBI cross Rs. 50,000 crore, adds to liquidity crunch The Union government has parked Rs. 50,931 crore with the RBI, which might be adding to the liquidity crunch and the economic constraints that the government is already facing. At a time when other banks are borrowing at 7.75% to meet their daily cash requirements, the government's move is seen as inappropriate. • Janet Yellen appointed as first woman chairman of the US Federal Reserve Janet Yellen has been selected as the next chairman of the US Federal Reserve, replacing Ben Bernanke. She will be the first woman to head the Federal Reserve in its 100-year history.
