( n – 1) horizontal and ( n – 1) vertical lines are drawn on it so that the square is subdivided into n 2 smaller squares of identical dimensions. There is another set of a large number of rectangular tiles of dimensions (2 × 1) units. It is required that the board be completely covered with the rectangular tiles and no tile lie partially outside the square. Statement A: If n is odd, it is not possible to accomplish the task, howsoever you arrange the tiles. Statement B: If n is even and two small squares (1 × 1) are cut, one each from the two adjacent corners of the board, it is still possible to cover the leftover part of the board with the tiles.
